the our upcoming marching band events. Please review the schedule for specific
times and responsibilities - contact me if you have any questions. (4.30.08) We're in the final
wave! I'm sure we're all excited about the upcoming summer vacation - and I'm
quite sure our graduating seniors are especially excited of what's ahead! It's a
busy 'end of the year' for the L-P band program, but it's full of important
dates & events to remember. Below are links to documents which contain details
about our "end of the year events" - band students can also find this
information posted in the band room. Please review the dates & times on the
schedule so that nothing is missed or forgotten. * LPHS BAND "END OF THE YEAR" ANNOUNCEMENTS (4.21.08) We're almost there! May begins next week & our 'end of the year' events will soon begin! With our spring concert, graduation and even some marching band parades, we'll keep ourselves plenty busy from now to till the end of the year. All our end of the year events are on the band calendar, so parents: ask your students about the details to these final events as they come closer and the details become available. SPECIAL THANKS: Thank you to everyone who helped make two recent events a big success! L-P musical production of "Seussical, The Musical" brought in a record sale of tickets for the musical, as well as a flow of wonderful feedback from parents & kids alike! It was great to put on a production that not only met the standards and expectations of L-P High School but also put on a production that could be enjoyed by entire families. We were very pleased to see such a range of audience members this year and we hope that next year's production brings the same! We would also like to thank everyone who helped with the IHSA Organizational Contest hosted here earlier this month. All the visiting directors, students and patrons had lots of positive comments about our contest, the organization of the contest, and how very helpful people were throughout the day. Even though a few schools arrived late to the contest, we were able to accommodate them in the performance schedule. In the end, we had no problems in any areas - which is a fabulous thing for an LPHS/IHSA event! Results of L-P participation (if you hadn't heard yet): the LP Band received a Division I Superior Rating & the LP Mixed Choir received a Division II Excellent Rating. Friday, April 25th - The choral department is presenting a concert featuring "The Other Guys" & "The Girls Next Door", two a capella groups from the University of Illinois. This concert will take place this Friday at 7:00pm in the Mattheissen Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance by calling 223-1721 ext 204. All proceeds will go to the LP Choral Department as they continue to raise funds to purchase new choir robes. Saturday, April 26th - Our annual LP Jazz Dance will be held in the West Gym. The dance begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are $3.00 per student with ID/$5.00 per person/$10.00 per family. This dance-concert will feature the LP Jazz Ensemble with special guest "The Jim Markum Swing Band" from Peoria, Illinois. This dance band has performed all over central Illinois and features the music of the 'big band' era! "...put on your dancing shoes...'cause this night is made for dancing!" (If you would like to still help in any part for the jazz dance, feel free to
contact me.) _____________________________________________________________________________________ OBJECTIVES OF THE LA SALLE-PERU TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM: 1. To help the student develop into the best musician he or she can be through emphasis on instrumental music education. 2. To offer an opportunity for the young musician to perform literature of an appropriate level of difficulty, both individually and as a part of a student ensemble. 3. To help the student learn good character traits: such as responsibility, self-discipline, respect, and service. 4. To help the student learn cooperation with others and to work as a "team player" to achieve group goals. 5. To support and enhance the music programs in the elementary and junior high schools of the LaSalle-Peru-Oglesby areas. 6. To provide musical services to the school and community. 7. To promote, build and educate current and future audiences and supporters of music.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE LA SALLE-PERU TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM The purpose of music education is to provide students with the knowledge that allows them to make informed and effective choices about music and the arts. Through active performance, students gain a deeper, more meaningful understanding of these choices. The applied, musical, and cultural contexts of the performance music are essential to achieve total musicianship.
